History
The Institute resumed its activities in Mexicali in 1981, following earlier work in the 1960s. In 1982 it offered the Master’s program in Systems Engineering, followed by the Geothermal Energy specialization and the Master’s program in Thermodynamic Engineering. Its history connects research and academic education with solutions to regional needs.

Generate, apply, innovate, disseminate and transfer knowledge, developing people capable of proposing, undertaking and consolidating relevant, sustainable solutions to the problems and needs of their communities. Promote respect for the environment and social responsibility, and educate highly qualified graduate professionals who share these values and capabilities, contributing to a more equitable and participatory society.
Vision 2040
By 2040, the Instituto de Ingeniería positions itself as an academic unit of a leading and innovative university, recognized nationally and internationally as a transformative agent of social progress. Its contribution to creating, developing, innovatively applying and transferring knowledge is complemented by educating highly qualified people with scientific, technological and entrepreneurial competencies. Through applied and frontier research, the Institute promotes human fulfillment and inclusive, sustainable development, contributing to democracy and social justice.
